When during the day is it best to take Iron?Updated 10 months ago
Iron contains iron in the chelated form of ferrous bisglycinate, which has several advantages over other forms, including better absorption and lower incidence of side effects. Due to its binding to the amino acid molecule glycine, its absorption in the digestive tract is less affected by certain foods. This results in a high absorption effect without competing with other minerals such as calcium and zinc.
This makes it unnecessary to take Iron on an empty stomach to improve availability as with other forms of iron. However, although ferrous bisglycinate is less sensitive to some food substances, we do not recommend taking the capsules with tea and coffee (due to the tannin content) or dairy beverages. We also do not recommend eating food with a high fibre content.
In terms of physiological functions of the body, iron is generally absorbed better in the morning than in the evening. We therefore recommend supplementation in the morning.
