What are the benefits of omega 3 supplementation in the form of krill phospholipids?Updated a year ago
What are phospholipids?
Phospholipids belong to the complex lipids that form the basic structural components of cell membranes. They are formed from a glycerol molecule, two fatty acids and a phosphate group, which is connected to various molecules (e.g. choline). In this form, omega 3 fatty acids are found precisely in krill oil.
Phospholipids are crucial for cell health, nutrient transport and intercellular communication.
Unlike the more common triglycerides found in fish oil, the omega 3 fatty acids from krill are bound to phospholipids, ensuring better absorption and integration into cell membranes. The phospholipid form allows omega 3 to penetrate cells more easily and be used more efficiently by the body, which increases their bioavailability and improves health benefits.
Benefits of omega 3 krill oil in the form of phospholipids:
• Better absorbability and faster transport of omega 3 into cells
• Higher bioavailability
• Higher representation of EPA, relative to DHA, than in omega 3 fish oil
• Contains astaxanthin, which is the most powerful antioxidant
• Contains choline for proper development and functioning of the nervous system
• Supports cognitive functions and can thus be a support in the prevention of diseases such as senile dementia or Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease
• It is a sustainable source of omega 3 fatty acids from controlled fishing
• Does not have a typical fishy taste
