Essential Supplements for a Healthy Pregnancy and BreastfeedingUpdated 4 months ago
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the body’s demands for essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients significantly increase.
Which key supplements do we recommend to help meet these needs?
Multivitamin Pregnancy Essentials
Provides fundamental nutrients needed for the healthy development of the baby and to support the mother during breastfeeding (biotin, choline, chromium, iodine, selenium, B vitamins including methylated folate, vitamin K2-MK7, zinc, beta-carotene, vitamin D, vitamin E, mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols, iron)
We recommend starting supplementation several months before planned conception, continuing throughout pregnancy and into the breastfeeding period.
Take 2 powder capsules and 1 liquid capsule daily with a main meal.
Omega 3
We recommend omega 3 forms suitable for pregnancy, such as: Liquid Omega 3, Omega 3 Algae, Krill Oil +, or Kids Omega 3.
Ideally, take the standard recommended daily amount with food, at any time of day.
Magnesium, Zinc Chelate + Vitamin B6
Helps prevent cramps, fatigue, and high blood pressure, which can occur during pregnancy.
Recommended dosage: 2 capsules per day, taken at any time.
Vitamin D3 and K2
If vitamin D levels in the blood are low, we recommend increasing intake beyond the 1000 IU provided in the Pregnancy Essentials multivitamin.
Optimal blood levels of vitamin D should be between 100–150 nmol/l.
We recommend Vitamin D3+K2 drops or Vitamin D3 and K2 capsules.
If blood levels are already optimal, taking Pregnancy Essentials in combination with Calcium+D3/K2 (which also contains D3 and K2) is sufficient.
Calcium+D3/K2
Calcium requirements increase during pregnancy for the development of the baby’s bones, teeth, and nervous system. The combination of calcium, vitamin D3, and K2 supports healthy bone mineralization in both mother and baby.
Breastfeeding further increases calcium needs, as this mineral is passed into breast milk. Calcium is essential for the baby’s bone and tooth development. Supplementation helps maintain optimal calcium levels in the mother’s body and protects her bone mass from demineralization.
We recommend taking 1 capsule of Calcium+D3/K2 daily.
